There are only 3 things you need to know about leadership (other than the fact that it is damn hard… )

  1. Excuses are generally bad… There are two types of people according to Peter Drucker: those who produce results and those who make excuses why they don’t produce results… Don’t buy into the excuses… Everything is possible
  2. Stretch targets – a way to move people forward… A way to stimulate a higher performance requirement. You must generate value and if you do we will pay you generously… Crucial! Get people excited about performing above mediocrity!
  3. Be yourself – The best leader you can ever be is based on who you are… Not what you can read in text books or study in MBA courses… The best leader you can ever be is if you are yourself and secure in being so… Nothing beats this!

So what else do you need? Practice, practice and excel!

Speech in Da Nang…


I was conducting yet another speech today, this time in Da Nang, Vietnam for 300 eager, hungry and dynamic Network Marketing Leaders. Below you will find an extract of what I focused on during my speech today. If you want the full speech it’ll cost you….   • First and foremost you need to realize that you are the CEO of your own life. What happens and how successful you become is up to you… you are responsible!
  • So if you are the CEO of your life ensure that you are the Chief Excitement Officer and/or the Chief Enthusiasm Officer of your future. Most of us never are though… Most of us are the Chief Excuse Officer of our own lives… It is time to stop making excuses for all the things you could have done or could have been and instead just be the best you possible can!

Ingredients a successful NWM Leader needs: 

  • Inspiration
    • You need to be able to inspire others to do what you want them to do voluntarily… That’s inspiration! Find out what they are dreaming of and what they are aspiring to become and work from there.
    • You need to be inspired by your own dreams and goals… Why are you in this business? What do you want to achieve? Why? Get on top of it and work it from every possible angle.
  • Information
    • Seek to learn everyday. Educate yourself on Leadership, relationships and sales…. become better by becoming more knowledgeable. Spend 30 min/day finding new information and new learnings… only way to progress!
  • Perspiration
    • The only way to become successful is by hard work and determination. There are no shortcuts to success. Work hard today and for 5 consecutive years and you’ll lead a life of abundance for the rest of your life…. Appealing? Heck yes! That’s what this business can do for those who take it seriously!
  • Don’t take yourself too seriously: no one else does. You ain’t that special nor am I. Take this business seriously because you can build something today that will last you for generations to come but don’t get stuck up. Big ego is a danger in this business. If I had listened to all the stuff people tell me in this business my head would have exploded along time ago… Don’t take yourself too seriously, be yourself, be humble … But do take your business seriously because your future family can benefit from what you build today!
  • Work on your story: Having a compelling story and sharing this as often as possible is the best recipe for success in the NWM business. Nothing describes this business better than when someone who is doing it and doing it successfully is sharing the why, the how and the what… work on your story…. and share it… all the time!
  • Work on strengths: do you want to improve or do you want to excel? If you wish to excel at something than work on what you are good at effortlessly. If you work on your strengths your weaknesses will also improve and you will maximize your capabilities…. If you are naturally good at communicating…. Do so often… as much as you can in order to excel.

Finally, in order to become a strong leader you need to:

  1. Lighten up – life is too dull as it is… No need for you to contribute here other than positively! Be the most positive person you can ever be, always!
  2. Grow up – stop letting small and insignificant things become you – FOCUS and work the plan…. Nothing can stop you
  3. Shut up – listen to people around you, learn and adapt. Nobody wants to follow a leader who thinks himself/herself superior in all regards…

Good luck being the best that you can possibly be…. This is your life! What you do with it is your responsibility. You are indeed the CEO of your own alternative future!

Ladies & Gentlemen (Bapa Bapa, Ibu Ibu, for my Indonesian readers/viewers) it is time… Time to make a decision. A decision that could change your life and change the life of your family, for generations. Do I have your attention? Good! 

The decision to be great – that’s yours! Make it!

I am writing (speaking) here today with a steadfast conviction that you can be all that you desire to be. You can be somebody in the eyes of the many. You can lead a richer and a more meaningful life. You can…. of this I am sure! Are you? 

 

You see you got to let go of your fears and inhibitions and you got to start believing in yourself. Just don’t take yourself too seriously… no one else does! You are the CEO of your own life… Does this mean that you are the Chief Enthusiastic Officer, Chief Energy Officer, Chief Eager Officer or… Chief Excuse Officer… What do you say? You are the boss of you… No one else. So what you do with your tomorrow is up to you. We all have fears and doubts but winners are able to channel these doubts into drive and ambition and thus, make it big… It is time to wake up and start taking responsibility for your own life. How happy you are, how successful you become and how rich you end up being, is all up to you. Take charge of your life and start making a difference to you! 

 

Energy – You need this! Energy is crucial to attract winners around you and that’s exactly what you wanna do! You got to be energetic and enthusiastic about your situation, always! Hell, things are looking up… I am on a roll… I can do this… I am going places! Be energetic! 

 

Passion – Love what you do and what you do will become your love! There are no shortcuts here. You’ve got to to be passionate about your work, life, situation and the people you are surrounded by! Passionate people are contagious… Be Contagious! 

 

Enjoy – It’s alright to have a good time! Enjoy yourself. Spend time on yourself. Be lavish, live well! Spend 90% of what you make and save 10%. What’s the point of a large bank account when you stand before Saint Peter (or his equivalent in Islam, Hinduism etc…)What’s the point? Enjoy life today! Let’s do a success baptism together… Take me to the river of hope and joy and wash me down… Enjoy yourself! 

 

Learn – Life is worth living if you learn! Make sure you put enough time on educating yourself so that you can help others. Helping others will ultimately determine how far you go. Spend 30 minutes every day on learning new things. The more you learn the richer you will become… Not only financially but also spiritually! Seek to help others because by helping others you will involuntarily help yourself! 

 

Focus – Too many people lie awake at night thinking and worrying about things that will never come to pass. Don’t waste the precious time you have with meaningless pondering and worrying… Focus on the few things that matter the most to your success. Forget all else – Inconsequential! 

 

Excuses – Get rid of them! They are the anti-Christ of success! Never blame, excuse or justify why you are not successful. Ultimately it is your doing, your thinking and your fault if you are not all that you can be! Own up to the one person you cannot lie to… YOU! Stop making excuses and start making progress! 

 

I am here to tell you that the person you dream of being is only one decision away. Make that decision now… Be the person most of only dream of being and never really become… Don’t settle for mediocrity. Take action – live life to its fullest by being the person that you deserve to be!

Results…


Why are you working? Is it to gain a salary? Or is it to create a legacy? The choice is yours!

Whatever reason for why you are struggling to make a difference don’t matter much… What matter is the amount of results you produce. Without results you are not productive… In order to deliver above the expectations of your superiors you need a large amount of Energy! In fact 75% of the job is ENERGY. If you don’t have it, it is better to be nice! Energy will move things forward, Energy will move people forward and Energy will get the job done.

The other 25% of result production lies in being daring. Too few leaders dare to make decisions. Decisions that can truly change your competitive advantage. How many competitors are you facing in your industry? Probably a fairly large amount… What is it that sets your company aside? And I don’t mean what you and your peers think… But what your consumers think… Do you have edge? Do you stand out? Do you dare?

I admire Leaders who have guts! Guts to take those decisions that may very well get them fired… Because those decisions may be a clear differentiator to success. I am here to tell you: Take those decisions that you believe in and that could be risky…. Not guts no glory, as the saying goes. I live by the principle that if you make mistakes I will not fire you… However, I will fire you for inactivity and complacency… CLEAR?

Common Sense!

Tomorrow I am conducting a Leadership Training for a bunch of great potential future Leaders working in our Regional support functions. They are in for a couple of surprises… But I digress!

 

Why is it so hard for most of us to become natural leaders? I mean; Leaders that others want to follow and that others respect, not because the titles we hold, but because of the way we are? Why is this so hard? Well, in my opinion it is because we are not acting naturally. Leadership is nothing without a large pinch of sincerity. You will never gain respect as a leader if respect in itself is what you are looking for. I work with a lot of smart and ambitious people who are all striving to become great leaders and this is indeed a great privilege. However, those who try too hard don’t make it… Those who seek respect don’t make it… Those who consider themselves smarter than others don’t make it… Those who lack humility don’t make it… But those who genuinely are interested in other people and seek improvements within and in others, do make it!

 

Leadership is easy… as it requires only two ingredients:

  1. Common Sense 
  2. Tough love (read: empathy and guts)

For most eager Leaders the recipe is to calm down… Don’t try so bloody hard. Be yourself, act naturally and seek not the approval of others but seek instead to understand. Understand circumstances, people and situations!

 

Get in the game… Work on yourself by not trying so hard… You are good enough!

Emotions…


Emotions are a vital part of doing business. Especially in an MLM business scenario. There are thousands and thousands of people in the MLM business. The only way to make it in this fiercely completive environment is to be warm, approachable and positive. I don’t know any leader in the MLM industry who does not have warmth and a genuine interest in others.

However, there must be a reasonable limit to your emotions because: There are only two truths in the world:

  1. After good times come bad times and after bad times come good times… Clock work orange… Count on it! 
  2. People will disappoint you! Again and again…

How you deal with your emotions in times of trouble is what will set you a part from others…. I find a good way to respond to disappointment is to just tell myself; Isn’t that interesting… Another person disappointed me… Well, what do you know?… There will be others…. Isn’t that interesting. 

You got to keep on fighting – You got to keep on believing and you got to keep on smiling… Who in this whole world can you truly trust? Wh0?

Don’t worry about it… WORK! DREAM and LIVE!
